Bagel Bites and Friday Nights

I've recently read a couple different blogs about being single, getting older, and changing priorities. All of these blogs got me thinking about the way life is now and how it differs from life 5 years ago, or even 1 year ago.

I was talking about this very subject with a girlfriend of mine tonight as we both sat at home. She was housesitting and watching TV, and I was taking a break from some schoolwork. A couple different words were used to describe our solitary Friday nights including lame, old, and lonely. Not exactly choice adjectives when someone asks you how your weekend was Monday morning at work. This friend of mine had been given an invite to go out, but couldn't really get excited about it. In fact, staying at home and watching Gray's Anatomy re-runs was actually more appealing.

She figured if she went out she would have had, what she calls, a "Bagel Bite Night."

What's a "Bagel Bite Night?" you ask.

Let me explain.......

As women we unfortunately fall into a seemingly black hole of calorie counting. We are fully aware of what we are eating at all times, and if we are going to consume an excess amount of calories, it sure as hell better be worth it. Bagel bites are not worth the calories. So the other night after my friend got done eating her miniature bagels loaded with fake cheese and preservatives in order to restore some semblance of her childhood, she looked back and thought....not worth it.

The same sometimes goes for a Friday night out. You look back and think....not worth it.

It's not old or lame or lonely, it's just not the better of the two options anymore. I'm not quite sure when it ceased being the obvious choice. Maybe around the same time that I actually enjoyed going to bed early. All I know is that bagel bites aren't nearly as satisfying as they used to be, and neither are Friday nights out.

Genius?....not so much. Maybe not old and sad, but not having anything better to do than RERUNS of Grays Anatomy? Life is comprised of moments, experiences, people, places and things....reruns on tv...not so much.

I agree that life is comprised of moments, experiences, people, places, and things, but I also think that life is made up of choices. And for my friend, on that night, reruns of Gray's anatomy was the better choice. There's no need for judgement.

I meant she only had two choices.....

Sorry about the judgement, just an observation...
