No More Waiting

What better day to go be with Jesus than on His birthday. This is a very wise thought from a very wise friend.

Daddy, I hope you're having fun.

Waiting

Every moment I spend waiting.

Waiting for him to open his eyes
to take his next breath
to just say something.

Days go by and I'm still waiting.

But I know what's coming so I'd rather keep waiting.

Bible Humor

I don't know about everyone else, but I thoroughly enjoy bible humor. I'm not talking silly knock knock jokes about Noah and the Ark, but the kind of humor that almost borders on blasphemy. I had this experience a couple months ago with some girlfriends of mine. We were in the beginning stages of our church plant and our pastor wanted to do a meet and greet sort of thing at a local pub. Kind of an open forum for people to come and discuss spiritual issues, ask questions, and have a pint. He was calling it "God on tap," which I know is also used in other churches. Well, we decided that our church needed to be a little more original so we came up with some other useful names such as:

Father, Son and Holy Spirits

Jesus Cuervo

God's Word....Shaken, not Stirred.

I know, it sounds immature and silly, but I have to admit, I might have peed a little in my pants......just a little. I'm sure there were many more we came up with at the time, unfortunately, the rest have slipped my mind and my friend isn't answering her phone.

This next part isn't really humorous, but it definitely borders on blasphemy.

I got a new bible a few weeks ago and I'm afraid to use it. I know that sounds strange, but it's so pretty and neat that I don't want to get it dirty or rumple the pages. My old bible was torn and written in and I really loved it. But, I felt it was time to graduate to a big girl's bible. Plus, I like all the cheat sheets at the bottom of study bibles. So anyway, I was at my community group the other night and our leader started to flip through his bible. I almost had to stop him. He was tearing through those pages so quickly with no regard to the condition in which he was leaving God's word. I couldn't believe was I was seeing.

Ok, seriously. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Sad, but true.

I might as well put my bible up on a shelf, that way I won't touch it at all. That's a very logical way to go about it. And we all know how very logical I am. However, since I do actually enjoy reading the bible from time to time, up on a shelf probably isn't the best place for it. So then I thought that maybe I should get one of those really cool bible covers. You know which ones I'm talking about......the quilted ones that are usually a really pretty floral pattern with handles. And if you're really cool, you might have your initials monogrammed on it. Although, monogramming is more of a southern thing, so us Florida girls don't do monograms very often.

So, I thought about getting really theological at this point and talking about how we need to dive into the word and get our hand dirty and blah blah blah. But really, I just don't want to mess up the pages of my bible.

I write all this to say that I am so glad my God has a sense of humor.....I just hope he appreciates mine!
